World Environment Day

The United Nation’s World Environment Day is an annual event which celebrates global day for positive environmental action.  It began in 1972 and this year’s theme is THINK, EAT, SAVE

We have teamed up with UN and Textile Exchange to sponsor a completion for school children around the farming regions in Asia, Africa and South America. With the help of a local farming coop we will raise awareness of the traditional food crops grown alongside cotton. These are nutritious edibles such as sorghum, millet, chickpeas, mubovora (pumpkin) and paddy. Some of these crops have been around a long time but are at risk of disappearing. They are important for the biodiversity of our plant, adaptation to climate change, as well as for their nutritional value. For more information please visit our blog

L.A. Works Day of Service 2013

Please join us for a fun day of volunteering, music, and fantastic prizes. bgreen apparel is the official T-shirt sponsoring the T-shirts for this event. Every volunteer gets a free T-shirt while supplies last.

When: July 20th from 8am - 2:00pm (Kick-off ceremony @ 8:30am)

Where: Kick-off at Contreras Learning Complex @ 322 S Lucas Ave, Los Angeles 90017; projects at Contreras, Gratts Elementary, and surrounding downtown nonprofit organizations

What: After an exciting kick-off with celebrity guests and elected officials (hosted by Christine Devine of Fox 11 news), the volunteers will jump into the very unique volunteer experience for the day:

Service Crawl
Teams of 3-5 volunteers will race through Downtown Los Angeles for our third annual “Service Crawl”, completing significant service projects at shelters, youth programs, missions, food banks, libraries, schools, parks, and other nonprofit organizations that serve the members of our community. At each site, the teams will learn about the mission of the nonprofit and the challenges it and its clients face. After providing valuable hands-on support to the organization, the team will solve a clue to unlock the location of their next volunteer project. The teams will be racing for exciting prizes like JetBlue airline tickets, DIRECTV for a year, hotel stays, downtown restaurant gift cards and more!

Stationary School Project
For our volunteers and corporate sponsors who prefer to transform a single nonprofit site, hundreds of the L.A. Works Day participants will have the option to roll up their sleeves and paint, plant, landscape and build as they work together to revitalize the grounds of a downtown LAUSD Title I Elementary School.

At lunchtime, the volunteers will join together at the finish-line for a celebration with food (Pink's and CPK!), music, entertainment, and other fun activities celebrating community and civic engagement here in Los Angeles.

Who: Northrop Grumman is currently the largest sponsor with 250 volunteers; LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, Macy's, and several downtown law firms. The school and downtown communities are also participating!

Community Service Project - July 30, 2011

On July 30th, 2011 more than a thousand community and corporate volunteers will join together for a large-scale service project in Leimert Park Village to support the community’s efforts to make this hidden landmark an incubator for the continued development and preservation of African American art, culture, entrepreneurship and economic development in Los Angeles.

Leimert Park Village, the historical enclave of African and African American culture and arts in South Los Angeles, is undergoing a community revival. With a monthly Arts Walk launched through the efforts of neighborhood organizations and a homegrown music and arts festival each summer, this underserved community is working to become a hip LA destination. The village’s renaissance will get an extra boost this summer as Angelenos celebrate L.A. Works’ 20th anniversary with a day of community service and action.

This is another great volunteering opportunity to make an impact in our community. bgreen will provide organic cotton Tees for the volunteers and volunteer-leaders. Please note that you have to sign up to take part in this event.

LA Works Earth Day Event a Huge Success!

This weekend in the City of Watts, California, bgreen  along with over 100 volunteers joined together to celebrate the Earth Day 2011, by transforming an empty lot to a beautiful community garden.  Our dedicated volunteer teams pulled weeds, picked up trash, built trenches and painted over graffiti stained walls. The end result was a very charming garden, where residents have reserved plots to grow fruits and vegetables.

It’s amazing to see what a great impact a small but dedicated group of people can have on the environment.  We are happy to have been a part in this amazing event and be able to give back to our community.

Earth Day of Service 2011

On Saturday, April 23, 2011 corporate and community members will celebrate Earth Day in collaboration with the L.A. Community Garden Council. Volunteers will partake in an environmental service project to create a community garden and upgrade an existing garden area. The community garden is in a residential neighborhood in Watts, less than 3-miles from an L.A. Historic Cultural Monument, the Watts Towers. Activities for the existing garden include planting native, drought resistant species around electrical towers and along the fence perimeters. Activities for the new garden include extending the height of an existing fence, clearing bushes, turning the soil and installing a faucet/spigot irrigation system. Volunteers will also remove graffiti on bordering walls, newly protected by the extended fence.

As part of our commitment to environmental causes and support of local communities, we have teamed up with LA Works to be part of this amazing event.

bgreen will be bringing a team of volunteers to this event and as the official apparel sponsor of LA Works, we will be handing out custom made Organic Cotton T-shirt to all registered volunteers and volunteer leaders.

Stay tuned for picture and video updates.
